NAVAL OPERATION LEADS TO ARREST OF FISHERMAN ENGAGED IN ILLEGAL FISHING OFF ALAMPIL

A successful naval operation carried out by Sri Lanka Navy on the evening of 18 June 2025 resulted in the apprehension of one individual engaged in illegal fishing activities in the seas off Alampil, approximately 3.3 nautical miles from shore.

Rapid Action Boat Squadron (RABS) Cedric Craft Z 105 and Z 230 deployed from from ND Nayaru - SLNS Gotabaya and intercepted and arrested the fisherman along with one FGD whilst engaging in illegal fishing using light-coarse.

The suspect, identified as a W.G Rohana, 43 year old, resident at Kurusagahapaduwa, Rideewella, Chilaw, was found an OBM (Suzuki 25HP), FGD, LED lights, fuel Approx 1.5L patrol & kerosene 25L other fishing-related items.

The arrested person and seized items were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries, Mullaitivu, for further legal proceedings.
