Due to heavy rainfall, many areas of the Wilpattu National Park were flooded by 24th December 2018. It is in this backdrop, a prompt rescue mission had to be launched, learning that there was a bus entrapped with 20 civilians in the Wilpattu jungle.
As a result of the Rajangana Tank reached spill level due to heavy rains experienced, the water level of Kala Oya was rising, posing a flood threat at the Eluwankulama causeway bridge. Responding swiftly to the flood emergency, a 4R (Rapid Response Rescue & Relief) team was deployed and they managed to rescue the bunch of civilians who were crossing the Kala Oya.
