In conjunction with the World Environment Day and the Posen Poya Day, the RABS HQ has conducted a project to plant mangroves, native to the Gangewadiya area under the theme of "Biodiversity - A Place for Nature" on 05th June 2020.
Considering the bio diversity of the area and the largest mangrove field of the country at Puttalam lagoon, arrangements were made to plant 110 no’s of mangroves including very rare mangrove varieties (included in the Red Book) such as Heen Kadol (Aegiceras corniculata) and Mal Kadol (Bruguiera Gymnorhiza) plants in the immediate vicinity of the Kala Oya estuary by the Commanding Officer, other officers and sailors of RABS HQ. In addition, a variety of mangrove plant nursery also has been set up near the Training Jetty of the RABS HQ includes around 3000 plants for future plantations.
Apart from, 150 no’s of Acajou Trees (Kaju) were planted in the camp premises with the participation of all officers and sailors to strengthen the economy of the country in future on the field of agriculture.
